The Conran Shop to launch 'TCS Space Project' in Seoul

| NBNTV = Kim Min-ho | Lotte Department Store announced on the 2nd that its premium lifestyle select shop, The Conran Shop, will launch the 'TCS Space Project' for approximately one month starting on the 4th, offering a new way to experience design and art.

The TCS Space Project is an initiative to transform the department store into a new cultural hub that connects with the city, leveraging the design and cultural assets accumulated by The Conran Shop and its expertise in collaborating with global artists. The project aims to turn the cityscape itself into a space for cultural experience, specifically utilizing the exterior of the main branch as a large-scale exhibition space so that customers can naturally encounter world-class design and art in their daily lives.

The first phase of the project consists of two themes, 'Color' and 'Monochrome,' sequentially showcasing the artistic worlds of world-renowned designer Verner Panton and photographer Daido Moriyama.

From the 4th to the 17th, customers can encounter the colors and patterns of Danish designer Verner Panton, who celebrates his 100th anniversary of birth this year. Panton was a defining designer of the 20th century, creating original designs that blurred the lines between furniture, lighting, space, and color. To commemorate his centennial, Lotte Department Store will present Panton's design world in the heart of downtown Seoul at 'Lotte Town Myeong-dong.'

The exterior of the main branch will be transformed into a Verner Panton exhibition, while a diverse chair collection reflecting his design philosophy will be displayed in the pop-up zone on the 1st floor. Additionally, a talk session with Carin Panton will be held on the 16th of next month, providing an opportunity to hear directly about her life and design philosophy. Meanwhile, a Verner Panton pop-up will also be held at The Conran Shop Gangnam branch from the 4th to November 16th, showcasing even more diverse content and products.

Following this, the second theme, 'Monochrome,' will be presented from the 18th to the 2nd of next month through the works of leading Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama. Since the 1960s, Moriyama has established an original visual language in modern street photography with raw and intense black-and-white photos, continuously engaging with contemporary culture through collaborations with various global brands.

The exterior of the main branch will be filled with his signature street photography. By bringing photos typically viewed inside an exhibition hall out to the building's exterior, the works can be experienced in a new way that harmonizes with the actual city streets. Furthermore, a pop-up covering approximately 3,300 sq ft will open at the pop-up avenue on the 1st floor of the main branch from the 18th to the 18th of next month, showcasing original works that are difficult to encounter in Korea alongside large-scale exhibition installations. Through a presentation where space and artwork harmonize, visitors can experience Moriyama's photographic world in a more three-dimensional manner.

In particular, a chance to purchase a total of 400 units of the 'GR series' from RICOH, the camera brand that has worked alongside Moriyama's street photography, will be provided, offering customers a special opportunity for collection. Sales are planned to operate via a raffle system, where only winners can purchase the products. In addition, various collaboration goods produced through cooperation with The Conran Shop will also be showcased.

The Conran Shop plans to continue discovering and introducing rare cultural and artistic content through space projects and provide differentiated cultural experiences to customers by presenting various programs, such as talk sessions inviting global designers.

“Verner Panton and Daido Moriyama have different modes of expression, but they share the commonality of creating their own language beyond existing visual grammar,” said Choi Yoon-seok, Head of the Content Division at Lotte Department Store. “Through this project, we hope people will directly experience the worlds of these two masters, ranging from the most brilliant colors to the deepest black and white, unfolding in the city center.”
