Hyundai Motor unveils All-New Tucson, setting new compact SUV standard

| NBNTV = Jeong Chang-gyu | Hyundai Motor has officially unveiled the fifth-generation 'The All-New Tucson,' marking the model's first full redesign in six years.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 21st that it held a media day at the 'CJ ENM Studio Center' on the 18th to showcase the new Tucson, which boasts a bolder design and enhanced competitiveness. The newly revealed Tucson sets a new standard in the compact SUV market by offering a robust design, overwhelming spaciousness, a highly efficient powertrain, specialized hybrid electrification technology, and advanced digital experiences.

The most prominent feature of this fifth-generation Tucson is undoubtedly its design. Based on Hyundai Motor's 'Art of Steel' design language, it implements the characteristic sturdiness and dynamic stance of steel. The front features vertical daytime running lights and slim center lamps to create a wide, confident impression, while the side profile emphasizes tension with sharp character lines.

The vehicle's dimensions have also grown significantly. The overall length, width, and wheelbase have increased by 60mm, 40mm, and 30mm, respectively, compared to the existing model, securing class-leading interior space. The opening angle of the second-row doors has been expanded to improve ease of entry and exit, and a new XRT trim with dedicated design elements will be available for customers who prefer an off-road sensibility.

The powertrain lineup consists of two options: 1.6 turbo gasoline and 1.6 turbo hybrid. The gasoline model combines an engine with a maximum output improved by 13PS with an 8-speed automatic transmission for a smoother driving experience. The hybrid model is equipped with a next-generation hybrid system, achieving a maximum system output of 245PS and a combined fuel efficiency of 17.4km/ℓ. Notably, it provides a superior electrification experience through navigation-based 'Inertial Driving Guidance' and 'Stay Mode,' which allows for the use of climate control functions even while the vehicle is stopped.

Driving performance has also seen significant improvements. Despite the larger body, airflow was precisely refined to reduce resistance, and the suspension and lower chassis structure were reinforced to enhance stability and ride comfort. The 'E-Traction' system in the hybrid model provides stable handling even on irregular road surfaces and effectively suppresses body rolling during high-speed cornering.

Digital convenience features are also noteworthy. 'Pleos Connect,' applied for the first time to a Hyundai Motor SUV, expands the vehicle beyond a simple means of transportation into a digital space connected to the customer's daily life. Through the generative AI agent 'Gleo AI' and the 'Pleos App Market,' the vehicle is expected to provide a mobility experience optimized for individual preferences.

A Hyundai Motor official expressed confidence, stating, "The All-New Tucson is a model that has achieved innovation across all areas of design, space, electrification, and digital technology." The new Tucson will reveal its pricing in October before beginning full-scale domestic sales.
