Forget portal searches, it's the era of AI recommendations: AIBIX Lab unveils 'AIBIX' index

AIBIX Lab introduces AIBIX, a 100-point index measuring brand competitiveness within generative AI responses from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity.

[On-site Interview] "Forget portal searches, it's the era of AI recommendations"... AIBIX Lab unveils brand AI competitiveness index 'AIBIX'

AIBI, FlipB, and Korea Big Data Association Sign Three-Way MOU to Analyze Generative AI Responses

At the scene, a three-way business agreement was signed between AIBIX Lab (CEO Kim Jun-hyun), Flipbee (CEO Son Eun-gyeong), a GEO intelligence platform company that analyzes generative AI responses, and the Korean Big Data Association (President Jeong Seok-chan). The three organizations plan to cooperate to verify the AIBIX measurement methodology, advance data collection and analysis systems, and promote related industry development. | NBNTV = Jeong Chang-gyu | We are rapidly shifting from an era where we tapped on portal search bars to buy products, to an era where we ask questions to AI and receive recommendations. Amidst this trend, AIBIX Lab (CEO Kim Jun-hyun) held a press conference at the Korea House in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 28th, drawing industry attention by unveiling 'AIBIX (AI Brand Index),' which shows a brand's AI competitiveness on a 100-point scale.

As generative AI is recently being actively used for product comparison and brand selection, the frequency of brand mentions within AI responses is emerging as a new competitive edge. However, the reality was a lack of indices to objectively compare and verify this with numerical data.

AIBIX, developed by AIBIX Lab, solves this problem by analyzing the responses of the four major generative AIs: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. By standardizing dozens of consumer questions about a brand and measuring them repeatedly, it calculates the 'brand appearance rate' and 'mention share'—the ratio in which the brand appears in responses—and presents them as a score out of 100. Through this single score, companies can intuitively check their brand's position compared to competitors, differences between platforms, and changes over different survey periods.

AIBIX Lab plans to officially announce the first AIBIX index in August, targeting 30 categories in the F&B sector, such as ramen, beverages, and dining out. Subsequently, it plans to sequentially expand measurement areas to beauty and home appliances, accumulating data so that companies can continuously monitor changes in AI visibility following their marketing and PR activities.

How, then, can AIBIX become a new marketing standard in the AI era? We met with Kim Jun-hyun, CEO of AIBIX Lab, to discuss the details.

Q. Why is the AIBIX service needed at this specific point in time? "On portals like Naver, it was important to be exposed at the top of search results. This was because consumers saw countless results and selected brands themselves. However, generative AI analyzes the conditions of a question and automatically filters out the most suitable brands to provide an answer. Now, 'how much our brand is cited and mentioned within the AI's answer' has become a new competitive advantage. We developed AIBIX to help companies accurately grasp their brand's position by measuring 'AI competitiveness'—which had previously been judged only by intuition—with objective data."

Q. I am curious about the specific score calculation method. How is the 100-point scale determined? "We standardize dozens of questions consumers ask about a brand and input them repeatedly under the same conditions into the four major generative AIs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity). Through this, we calculate the 'brand appearance rate' (how often the brand appears in the answer) and the 'mention share' (the portion the specific brand occupies among all mentions). Since we synthesize the measurement results of each AI and convert them into a 100-point scale, companies can intuitively check their position relative to competitors or changes over time through a single score."

Q. Is there a reason why only four global AIs were selected as measurement targets? Why were domestic AIs like Naver excluded? "It is because, while the domestic user base is large, 'repeated measurement' through official APIs must be possible. Currently, services like Naver's AI tab do not have official APIs and are based on logins, making repeated measurement under identical conditions difficult, so they were excluded in the first round. However, we plan to consider their inclusion if the conditions are met in the future."

◆ "We look at the climate, not today's weather"

Q. Since AI's answers change every time a question is asked, can this truly be called a reliable 'index'? "That is why we strictly exclude personal conversation history and personalized settings from individual apps. We conduct 'repeated, cross-referenced, and cumulative' measurements in a controlled environment via API. If a single response is like 'today's weather,' AIBIX is a 'climate' measurement method that aggregates hundreds of responses by executing the same question multiple times. Every quarter, we repeat the process under the same conditions to confirm clear trends rather than temporary phenomena."

Q. I heard that you provide consulting alongside the index. What are your measures to prevent manipulation and ensure reliability? "We apply the same criteria to all brands and strictly manage the system so that scores cannot be manually changed. The index measurement and consulting departments are also separate. To ensure objectivity, we signed a three-way business agreement with Flipbee, a GEO intelligence platform that analyzes generative AI responses, and the Korean Big Data Association (President Jeong Seok-chan). We will have our methodology verified through the association and establish a system where data is transparently disclosed for external monitoring."

Q. What are the future service release schedules and plans? "In early August, we plan to officially announce the first AIBIX index targeting 30 categories in the F&B (food and beverage) sector, including ramen, beverages, alcohol, and dining. We plan to sequentially expand the measurement areas to beauty and home appliances."

Q. How will companies utilize this index? "The top 10 scores and rankings for each category will be released monthly for free, serving as a 'scoreboard' for the entire market. For companies requiring deeper analysis, we will provide paid in-depth reports, monthly monitoring, and consulting for GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and PR strategies. This will allow companies to specifically track how their brand visibility on AI platforms changes following marketing or PR activities."
