Upbit to restrict Galaxy S7 usage starting September 10

| NBNTV = Reporter Jeong Dong-jin | Upbit will suspend app updates for smart devices running Oreo (Android 8.1) starting this September. Given the standard manufacturer support window for OS upgrades, the Galaxy S8 series, which supports Pie (Android 9), will become the new baseline device.

According to Upbit on the 31st, the Upbit app can only be updated on devices running Android 9.0 or higher starting September 10.

The IT and finance industries already classify Android 8.0 as a legacy operating system, noting that while access might be possible, users may be unable to utilize all app functions properly.

In short, this means Galaxy S7 users will no longer be able to use the Upbit app normally starting in September. Additionally, while the final upgrade for the Galaxy S8 from its launch specification Nougat (Android 7.0) is Pie, the minimum requirement may be raised even further in the future, similar to the current shift for the Galaxy S7.

Based on devices officially released by Samsung Electronics to date, the Galaxy S26 is the latest model equipped with Baklava (Android 16). Considering the 3 to 7 years of technical support provided for OS upgrades and security patches, the Galaxy S7 is undergoing a natural phase-out.

An Upbit official stated, "Depending on the update, some functions may not be provided normally on Android 8.1 or lower," adding, "To ensure stable app service operation and provide a smooth mobile environment, we are raising the minimum supported operating system version for the Upbit mobile app to Android 9.0."
