2Z unveils 'Indie Dance' sound with new EP VECTOR

2Z has declared a new musical identity by blending the romance of rock with the mainstream appeal of dance. Celebrating their 6th anniversary since debut, 2Z has solidified the musical direction established during their 'GloryDayz' world tour over the past 2 years through their ninth EP, [VECTOR].

The album title, 'VECTOR,' is a mathematical and physical term referring to a quantity possessing both magnitude and direction. The name reflects 2Z's determination to project both their musical direction and their energy simultaneously. Having maintained close ties with their global fandom—including releasing a Portuguese version at the request of Brazilian fans during their world tour starting in 2025—the group presents a new path for K-bands through this release.

The essence of 'Indie Dance' breaking the boundaries of rock and EDM

The title track, 'Crushed Luv,' draws from the 'Indie Dance' or 'Alternative Dance' genres that have been prominent since the late 1980s. Built around pentatonic guitar riffs and layered with synth sounds, the track delivers an addictive melody. While the song's title signifies 'wounded love,' it is characterized by expressing complex emotions through a powerful, upbeat sound.

The production quality of the title track was further elevated through a collaboration with American producer Bob Mass. While working with 2Z to facilitate their global market expansion, Mass was so drawn to the charm of 'Crushed Luv' that he personally participated in the mixing and mastering. The final result emphasizes the drum and bass guitar beats more than the original version, more clearly highlighting their identity as a band.

From 'Modern Life' to 'The Toast': tracks capturing the tour's emotion

The album consists of 4 tracks that showcase a diverse sonic palette. The second track, 'Modern Life,' expresses a sense of melancholy regarding a changing world. Featuring monophonic synth tones and groovy rhythms, the chorus evokes an atmosphere that is simultaneously upbeat and lonely.

The third track, 'The Toast (In the name of Hero),' completes the album's narrative. Having already received enthusiastic responses during live performances in Europe and Brazil, the song—which was previously only available on specific platforms—is now officially released in a Korean version. A song that offers a toast to those enduring lives that feel like a war, it preserves the same emotional resonance that led audiences to sing along during the tour.
