Lee Chan-won reveals long-time fandom for BoA: "I've loved her since 5th grade"

Singer Lee Chan-won has garnered attention by revealing his long-standing admiration for singer BoA.

During the broadcast of the JTBC variety program 'Talk Pa One 25 O'Clock' on the 16th, the cast members shared various stories while exploring Japan's 'Hitokara' (solo karaoke) culture and the Tokyo landmark Jindaiji.

In the video, Lee expressed his deep affection for BoA by singing her songs. Describing himself as a "complete true fan," he revealed that he has been a fan of BoA since he was in the fifth grade. He noted that seeing BoA's successful career in Japan inspired him to attend a Japanese language academy through his mother at the time.

Lee demonstrated his sincerity by bringing a light stick he had personally prepared to sing BoA's songs. He expressed his gratitude toward the singer, saying he is "grateful just for her existence," and added a message asking her to continue releasing music in the future.

Japan's 'Hitokara' culture and exploring Tokyo's Jindaiji

The broadcast also highlighted Japan's unique 'Hitokara' (solo karaoke) culture. As the trend of enjoying karaoke alone spreads across Japan, the program shared local media findings showing that 3 out of 10 respondents have experienced solo karaoke according to survey results from late 2025.

The subsequent Tokyo travel segment introduced the Jindaiji temple, located about 30 minutes from Shinjuku via public transportation. A peaceful escape from the city's bustle, the area has recently emerged as a hotspot on SNS. It was described as an ideal destination for solo travelers, featuring cafes and handicraft shops where tradition and modern sensibilities coexist.

The cast members visited the Wonsam Great Buddha Hall and tried 'Omikuji,' a traditional Japanese fortune-telling ritual. The area is also famous for Daruma dolls; the Daruma market held every March is recognized as one of Japan's three major Daruma markets due to its massive scale. Lee was delighted after receiving a 'financial prosperity' fortune through the Daruma Omikuji.
