Rosie Park solo exhibition 'Awe in the Ordinary' opens at Gallery T Dongtan

| NBNTV = Ban Jae-dong | Artist Rosie Park is hosting a solo exhibition in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, reconstructing nature, objects, and cultural experiences encountered across various regions into still-life paintings.

Gallery T is hosting the solo exhibition 'Awe in the Ordinary: Discovery, the Wonder of Daily Life' at the Lotte Department Store Dongtan Main Building through the 21st.

The exhibition features works in which Park translates natural elements, objects, and landscapes encountered during her global travels into paintings. Having worked in various regions, including New Zealand and Korea, the artist arranges subjects and experiences collected from different locations onto a single canvas.

The works stem from objects and landscapes encountered in daily life. Based on memory and experience, Park reassembles subjects observed across different times and spaces to express them as still-life paintings. By bringing objects and natural elements from disparate locations together on one canvas, she creates compositions where familiar and unfamiliar subjects coexist.

Elements drawn from nature and art history, as well as objects found in her surroundings, also serve as subject matter. Park rearranges plants and objects encountered in different regions within the frame, composing them into singular scenes.

Rather than treating objects solely through their form, Park reflects the accumulated time, culture, and personal memories associated with each subject in her work. In the process of observing and translating these objects into paintings, she constructs relationships between subjects with diverse backgrounds within the frame.

At the exhibition, visitors can experience works where memories and objects collected from various locations are recombined through the artist's lens.

“Rosie Park's work encourages us to look again at the small existences within our daily lives rather than traveling far to find something special,” said Jo Su-yeon, a curator at Gallery T. “Through this exhibition, we hope visitors discover their own wonderful moments hidden within the familiar and come to view an ordinary day with a bit more preciousness.”
