SEVENUS's Heejae's chaotic Chuseok cooking adventure in his studio apartment

SEVENUS's Heejae captured the holiday spirit by preparing Chuseok food alone in his studio apartment. In a video released on the 24th, Heejae was shown making songpyeon using a kit and frying store-bought assorted pancakes (modumjeon).

At the beginning of the video, Heejae challenged himself to make songpyeon while mentioning the simplified holiday customs of today. He expressed confidence, noting that songpyeon can be easily made at home thanks to available kits. Mentioning his habit of measuring ingredients precisely according to recipes, Heejae was seen pouring exactly 80ml of water for the dough.

However, the dough-making process was not smooth. In the video, Heejae appeared flustered, saying the dough was too watery and looked "like soft tofu." He went through several trials and errors, adding more water to adjust the consistency. In particular, when the dough failed to clump together well, he was seen kneading it on a cutting board. Observing the state of the dough, he decided more water was needed, while also expressing his frustration that the dough seemed excessively sticky.

Ultimately, the completed songpyeon resulted in irregular shapes or excessively thick skins. Pointing to the poorly shaped ones among his handmade treats, Heejae remarked, "It tastes like flour" and "There is no filling at all." Furthermore, after drizzling sesame oil, he drew laughter by saying, "It's drier than hardtack." Acknowledging that the hideously shaped songpyeon "couldn't be served to anyone," he joked that he would eat the poorly shaped ones himself.

Comparing the taste of store-bought assorted pancakes and handmade songpyeon

To compensate for the disappointing songpyeon, Heejae completed his table setting using store-bought assorted pancakes (modumjeon). He mentioned that since food quality is so high these days, it is better to use pre-made products, and proceeded to fry the pancakes in oil. During the cooking process, he was seen using a combination of zero-calorie oil and canola oil.

Heejae tasted perilla leaf pancakes, minari pancakes, pollack pancakes, and skewer pancakes in turn, highly praising the quality of the commercial products. In the video, he reacted that products from large corporations are indeed different, noting they were delicious and not greasy at all. He specifically mentioned the crispy texture of the perilla leaf pancakes and the clean taste of the pollack pancakes.
