Vocalist Jo Mingyu has proven his unique musicality by delivering a performance that maximizes classic charm. As part of the ninth stage of his music project 'MONO DRAMA : replay' Season 2, he reinterpreted 'Padam Padam', the world-renowned masterpiece by Edith Piaf.

Moving beyond a simple cover, this performance takes on the form of a complete theatrical production. Jo dominated the stage as a protagonist driving the song's narrative, embodying its signature tension and rhythm through his vocals. While preserving the classical sentiment of Piaf's original, he infused the piece with new colors through a modern arrangement.

An overwhelming sound crafted by a jazz band and choir

The scale of the sound is the centerpiece of this stage. Choi Moon-seok anchored the performance as bandmaster and pianist, while a rich brass section—including trumpet, trombone, and saxophone—alongside guitar, drums, and bass, heightened the song's tension. This was further elevated by a string ensemble of violin, viola, and cello, as well as a six-member choir featuring Kim Gayoon and Park Hee-soo, creating a grand orchestral effect.

The arrangement, involving Choi Moon-seok, Oh Min-ju, and Jeong Ui-myeong, sophisticatedly varied the original rhythm. The harmonies created by the interplay of brass, strings, and the choir served to further expand the range of Jo's vocal timbre. To ensure musical perfection, Im Jae-geung handled the mixing and mastering to increase the sound's density.

A fusion of stage direction and visual aesthetics

The visual direction focused on maximizing immersion, fitting for the 'MONO DRAMA' title. Min took charge of the concert direction for Master Key Production, visually supporting the dramatic flow of Jo's vocals. Video work by Yŏng-nae Cho and Jang So-ha effectively captured the stage's lighting and atmosphere, deepening the viewer's engagement.

The styling, a collaboration between stylist Seo Rae-jina and the hair and makeup team from Jenny House, completed Jo's classic yet sophisticated image. With visual production that matches the musical depth, the video offers an experience akin to watching a short musical.
