Husband asks to 'call it even' on alimony in Divorce Camp dispute

On the relationship recovery program 'Divorce Camp,' the negotiation process for alimony and child support was revealed for a couple with five children struggling with infidelity and parenting responsibilities.

Alimony disputes over infidelity and vasectomy

Experts on the show determined that the husband held significant liability for the infidelity. They analyzed the situation as very serious, citing the husband's refusal to admit to the affair and his attitude of seemingly mocking his wife alongside the other woman. While it was initially suggested that alimony could reach 50 million won or more, the proposal was lowered to the 40 million won range after considering circumstances such as the wife being with a male friend.

During this process, the husband expressed a desire to be exempted from or have the alimony reduced by mentioning he had undergone a vasectomy. The husband, born in 1999 (27 years old), explained that he underwent the procedure at his wife's suggestion. In response, the wife expressed strong rejection toward the husband's attempt to settle the alimony as "even," despite his faults being greater.

The husband stated he ended up hiding his mistakes out of guilt. Based on his monthly income of 3 million won, he requested to adjust the alimony to 20 million won, which is half of the initially proposed 40 million won. The wife agreed to the amount, and the alimony was finalized at 20 million won.

2.5 million won child support agreement for five children

Subsequent discussions regarding custody and asset division addressed the upbringing of the five children. The wife demanded child support for all five children, noting that since the husband had legally adopted the children from a previous marriage, his status as a father is maintained even after divorce. Considering the number of children, child support was initially calculated at 400,000 won per child, totaling 2 million won.

The husband expressed his willingness to pay all remaining funds after excluding his minimum living expenses. Given his monthly income of 3 million won, he expressed his intent to provide for the children. Ultimately, considering the children's future, an agreement was reached for a total of 2.5 million won in child support after adjusting the individual amounts.

'Trust is broken' vs. 'I want to be a good father': The couple's choice

In the final stage of the camp, where the couple must decide whether to divorce, the two reached different conclusions. The husband expressed his intention not to divorce, stating that he loves his wife and children and wants to become a better husband and father without repeating his past actions.

Conversely, the wife chose divorce, citing that her trust in her husband had been broken. She noted that instead of admitting his mistakes, the husband tended to dodge the issue, making it difficult to believe anything he says. Although the husband mentioned his efforts, such as purchasing a motorcycle to show his commitment to parenting, the wife made her position clear, pointing to the neglected motorcycle as evidence that his resolve is untrustworthy.
