Kim Seung-joo: A raw confession turning misfortune into music

Artist Kim Seung-joo has revealed a new musical direction by translating her difficult past into a musical language. In this session—a collaboration between indie scene chronicler AoB and the KT&G Sangsangmadang Chuncheon live series 'SoundGrid'—Kim brought her most personal and raw stories to the stage.

Facing the records of the past

The live session was structured around four themes that pierce through Kim's inner self. Following the opening 'History of Misfortune,' the set proceeded through 'Music Disqualification,' 'Diary,' and 'Childhood Vaccine.' By unreservedly revealing the unhappy history she once sought to hide, Kim used this moment of confession to close the chapter on her old world and allow something new to emerge.

Her musical attitude, particularly evident in the song 'Music Disqualification,' was striking. Kim paradoxically expressed her own musical struggles and deficiencies, remarking, "Because my music is the biggest problem, it is a disqualification of a disqualification of a disqualification." This demonstrates an artist who uses imperfection as a creative driving force rather than striving for flawless perfection.
