The 5th Jeju Hanjan Our Alcohol Festival (Jesulpe), an event showcasing traditional liquors, food, and brewing culture made from Jeju agricultural products, will be held from October 3 to 4 at the Remicon multi-cultural space in Jeju City.
The event is co-hosted and organized by the Jeju traditional liquor brands Jeju Hanjan and Olbareun Nongbujang. Under this year's theme, "Jeju's Liquor, Containing Time," the festival will feature traditional liquors and various programs utilizing local ingredients such as rice, millet, mandarin oranges, buckwheat, and honey.
On the first day, October 3, gourmet pairing dining, workshops, and classes will be held for those with advance reservations. On the second day, October 4, the festival will feature various programs alongside Olbareun Nongbujang—an eco-friendly agricultural direct-sales market—as well as local snack booths and live performances.
The program includes traditional liquor brewing demonstrations and gourmet pairing dining that pairs Jeju-based dishes with traditional spirits. A chef from the Jeju vegetarian restaurant Sumbida will prepare dishes using seasonal vegetables and surplus agricultural products that have struggled to find distribution channels.
Other activities include a Jeju agricultural product sushi workshop and a Mead brewing workshop using Jeju honey. Additionally, the festival will offer traditional liquor cocktail classes, local whisky classes, and limited-capacity docent tours where participants can enjoy food while receiving guided commentary throughout the venue.
To promote sustainability, the venue will provide multi-use containers and dedicated cleaning and return stations. The organizers also encourage the reuse of paper bags and the use of personal shopping bags by participants.
Entry to the festival is free, though purchasing traditional liquor and participating in certain programs requires a fee. Alcohol sales are restricted to those aged 19 and older. Detailed schedules and reservation information are available on the official event website and the Jeju Hanjan Instagram channel.
Jo Nam-hee, CEO of Paran Factory, stated, "Jeju's liquor is regional content crafted through the sweat of farmers, the passage of time in nature, the sincerity of brewers, and the lives and culture of the Jeju people. We want to demonstrate how seasonal and surplus agricultural products can gain new value through cooking and Jeju liquor."
