Actors Song Ki-yoon and Kim Chang-suk shared reminiscences of the eras that pierced through their more than 40 years of acting lives and their attitudes as actors. In the conversation between the two captured in the TV CHOSUN 'Star Documentary My Way' video, the hardships of past filming sets and the principles they have maintained as actors were revealed.
"If you cheat on lines, act with eyes closed"... Episodes from past filming sets
Song Ki-yoon shared an anecdote that occurred during a past drama shoot because someone could not memorize their lines. In the video, Song Ki-yoon mentioned an anecdote about those who engaged in so-called 'cheating' by glancing at the script because they could not memorize their lines. He shared a story that when a certain writer repeatedly saw people cheating, they wrote in the next script's stage directions, 'Close your eyes tightly and look at the ceiling while delivering the lines as if reminiscing,' making it impossible to open one's eyes to look at the script.
Additionally, regarding the custom in historical drama filming where one cannot face the King's face directly, he pointed out that the act of looking down to check lines can be a nuisance as it disrupts the breathing of the partner actor. Song Ki-yoon emphasized the importance of breathing and eye contact with the partner actor during acting, saying, "It is a nuisance to the other person. If the lines are mismatched, then you cannot be an actor."
"I am on terms with my sister to ask how she is even after the drama ends"... A connection lasting 30 years
The two also talked about the connection they built while working together on past dramas such as 'Chemistry'. Kim Chang-suk called Song Ki-yoon 'sister' and revealed that they are in a close relationship where they continue to meet and ask how each other is doing even after the drama ends. Kim Chang-suk said, "I especially continue to meet with my sister and ask how she is even after the drama ends."
Song Ki-yoon also reminisced about the past filming environments. Through anecdotes of the poor atmosphere at the time, such as having to take care of makeup and costumes themselves in the era when there were no coordinators, and experiencing difficulties with returning borrowed costumes during outdoor shoots, she conveyed the harsh conditions. The two shared memories of the time they lived like family while traveling to regional filming locations.
"The 40-year acting life itself is life and acting"
Song Ki-yoon, who has continued her acting activities for over 40 years, looked back on her life. Song Ki-yoon expressed her feelings, saying, "I have had an acting career for over 40 years," and that the "ups and downs and episodes experienced during that time were life itself, and were acting itself."
The two also mentioned their future activities. Kim Chang-suk expressed her desire to run long even until old age, not playing couple roles, but playing elderly characters who communicate mentally.
