Actor Baek Jin-hee and KBS drama director Choi Hyun-wook shared behind-the-scenes stories from the filming set and their acting philosophies based on their 15-year connection. The video, released on Baek Jin-hee's YouTube channel 'Jinny Is Back', contains a conversation held while meeting director Choi Hyun-wook, who recently published a book.
"The only actor who never misses lines is Baek Jin-hee"... Trust that has continued since 15 years ago
The connection between director Choi Hyun-wook and Baek Jin-hee began 15 years ago in the KBS short drama 'Hair Show'. After working together on several works such as the drama 'Feel Good to Die', the two met again after a long time and reminisced about past memories. Director Choi highly evaluated her sincerity as an actor, saying of Baek Jin-hee, "Among men, it seems to be Namkoong Min, and among women, it is Baek Jin-hee, who are the people who prepare perfectly and almost never miss lines on set."

In particular, Director Choi recalled Baek Jin-hee's acting skills during past filming, saying, "Once, she had to perform a crying scene during a dolly shot, and she did it perfectly even on the second take. She is like an acting machine." It was revealed as a behind-the-scenes story that there was a situation where the director requested another take because the audio engineer's feedback was not well-received, but Baek Jin-hee perfectly pulled off the crying scene even on the second take. To this, Baek Jin-hee replied, "At first, it was hard because I wasn't used to crying scenes, but I prepared by practicing my hand movements at a famous restaurant and looking at the script a lot." She added that she avoids looking in the mirror for her usual acting practice and reads many books to enrich her imagination.
Differences in acting philosophy..."I unconditionally follow the director's direction"
The two continued their conversation by sharing different perspectives on acting methods and directing. Regarding her acting style and how she responds on set, Baek Jin-hee stated, "I unconditionally follow the director. I do not be stubborn." She added, "Since the director checks everything from the entire set to the breathing in the editing room, if the director thinks it is right, I follow that opinion."

On the other hand, Director Choi Hyun-wook mentioned his changes as a director. Director Choi said, "In the past, I used to give a lot of direction to actors, but these days, I think good directing is to first respect the acting the actors have prepared and create an environment for them." However, he also mentioned that coordination is necessary when an actor's opinion does not match the situation on set. Director Choi explained that as a director, creating an environment where actors can perform well is the most important thing.
From extra to king role... Director Choi Hyun-wook's drama production story
Director Choi Hyun-wook also revealed episodes from drama sets he experienced before becoming a PD. Recalling his experience participating in a drama set as an extra, he shared an anecdote about how his shoes did not fit, which interrupted the flow of filming. He reminisced, "When I participated as an extra, I was flustered because my shoes didn't fit, and because of that, I even got scolded by the director." At the time, although he was participating as an extra, he faced difficulties having to perform a scene where a general wears a sword and gives an order in a situation where he only had two left shoes prepared.

Furthermore, he revealed an experience where he appeared as a minor actor due to casting by a senior director and had to act in front of the camera. At the time, he conveyed the urgent moment on set, saying, "I was a minor role cast by a senior director, but a situation arose where I had to shed tears in front of the camera." Regarding the meaning of his recently published book 'PAUSA', Director Choi explained, "It means 'pause' in Spanish, and it is one of the soccer strategies where, when the defense is solid, the forward slowly rotates the ball to look for an opening." He stated that through this strategy, he captured in the book a method of waiting psychologically and making a decisive pass, rather than physically pressing like the method of a revenge drama.
