Owl House deploys AI camera and LED safety system for heavy equipment

NBNTV = Reporter Ban Jae-dong | A new safety system is being integrated into industrial equipment, using AI cameras to detect workers near heavy machinery and triggering external LEDs to change color to signal their location. This advancement moves beyond traditional camera systems that relied solely on cabin monitors, allowing workers surrounding the equipment to also see detection status.

Owl House, a Busan-based automotive electronics specialist, announced it is installing its 'AI Camera Dual-Linked LED' system—which integrates AI cameras with external LEDs—on industrial heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, and cranes.

The system connects the AI camera's human detection function directly to external warning lights. Under normal conditions, the LEDs installed on three sides of the equipment remain blue. When the AI camera recognizes a person within a pre-set detection zone, the LED in the direction of the detected person flashes red.

While existing heavy equipment cameras focused on providing video feeds to the driver via a cabin monitor, this system also displays AI detection results on the exterior of the machine. This allows the driver to monitor surroundings via video while workers around the equipment can confirm via the external LEDs that a person has been detected in their direction.

Installation methods vary by machine. Owl House explained that it adjusts camera and LED placement, as well as wiring configurations, after evaluating the chassis structure, driver seat position, and working environment of each piece of equipment. This ensures the system accounts for differing driver fields of vision, working radii, and available mounting spaces.

Multi-channel camera systems have also been deployed on heavy machinery. An AI 4-channel camera system was installed on a Volvo EC300 excavator, while a system linking multi-channel cameras with cabin monitors was installed on 100-ton class crawler cranes.

The scope of application is expanding into special railway equipment. Owl House recently collaborated with JCH Hyundai Auto to pilot-install the 'Spera 3D Around View' on Korea Railroad Corporation railway maintenance equipment, though this remains in the pilot stage.

Owl House has a history of providing automotive black boxes, around view systems, electronics for imported vehicles, and Tesla feature upgrades. Building on this expertise, the company is now applying AI and multi-channel camera technology to heavy machinery and specialized industrial equipment.
