A video capturing the daily life of Lee Soo-young, the chairperson of the KAIST Development Foundation known for donating 76.6 billion won, has been released. In the video, unlike her image known for large-scale donations, Chairperson Lee showed a humble and meticulous side, such as personally inspecting the electrical facilities of a building and enjoying home shopping.
"In case someone embezzles it"... From building management to thorough payments
Chairperson Lee Soo-young visited the site of the electrical facilities of a building she owns to inspect the management status. After checking the newly installed power monitoring control panel, Chairperson Lee confirmed that while the facility capacity is 5,000kg, it is currently using about 977kg, meaning there is plenty of capacity. In particular, she mentioned the process of personally repairing the building over three years by organizing a management team, as the building had become a ruin with the electricity cut off following a bankruptcy in 1984. Chairperson Lee emphasized safety, confirming that the power quality has significantly improved through the low-voltage panel replacement work.
Chairperson Lee's thoroughness was also evident in her office work processing. In the video, Chairperson Lee personally reviewed payment items in the tens of millions of won range. She was captured checking large payment details one by one, such as 60 million won, 20 million won, and 20.35 million won. During this process of meticulously examining items such as the payment for the heliporter waterproofing work, Chairperson Lee explained the reason for personally checking the payment details, saying, "If I don't look at that carefully, if someone embezzles it, I will suffer a loss."
In contrast to her appearance while paying large sums, she was captured frequently using home shopping in her daily life. Standing in front of many delivery boxes delivered to her house, Chairperson Lee revealed her reason for preferring home shopping over department stores, saying, "Home shopping is better. How precious time is." In the video, Chairperson Lee showed a humble lifestyle, mainly purchasing products in the ten-thousand won range.
Additionally, her managing her health by using exercise equipment at home to do 'inversion' (geokkuri) exercises was also revealed. During the exercise, Chairperson Lee mentioned the effect of the exercise, saying, "It stretches the spine." Her appearance of taking care of her health using exercise equipment during daily life with her grandchildren created a friendly atmosphere different from the social status the public usually knew.
Chairperson Lee revealed her plans to leave for a KAIST-related house located in the United States and began preparations for departure. She expressed her anticipation for the departure, stating that she must go to the house in the United States at least twice a year, and since she rents it out a lot, she would go excitedly once she receives the money. The video captured the process of issuing an English certificate after receiving the COVID-19 vaccination for her trip to the United States. After the vaccination, Chairperson Lee showed a calm reaction, saying, "It feels just like getting a regular injection."
Visiting the market as her last schedule before departure, Chairperson Lee showed the side of a frugal homemaker by purchasing dried seafood such as anchovies. Visiting the market where wholesale takes place from 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM, Chairperson Lee personally checked the condition of the anchovies and even inspected the vacuum packaging to ensure there was no smell. Chairperson Lee showed herself packing items she personally selected at the market, saying she would "give the six boxes of anchovies she purchased to friends in the United States."
