"When the words 'Cheer up' feel overwhelming"... Ki Eun-se shares the helplessness of her days as a new employee
YouTuber Ki Eun-se shared her past struggles as a new employee while reading the book "When Even I Don't Know What I Want" by author Jeon Seung-hwan on her YouTube channel. She reflected on how vague encouragement can sometimes feel burdensome when one truly needs validation of their existence rather than pressure to do better.
A message was delivered that during the early stages of a career, what is needed more than vague encouragement is words that affirm one's very existence. YouTuber Ki Eun-se shared the difficulties she felt during her past professional life while reading the contents of the book "When Even I Don't Know What I Want" (Book Romance) by author Jeon Seung-hwan on her channel 'Kieunse Home' (YouTube).
"What is needed when the words 'Cheer up' feel overwhelming"
The video covered stories about the value of courage and ways of providing comfort. It was mentioned that courage gives us many opportunities, allows us to achieve dreams and love, helps restore relationships through mistakes, and breathes confidence and vitality into us. There are moments when anyone needs comfort, and when faced with things that cannot be handled alone, people borrow someone's shoulder or exchange encouragement.
However, it was mentioned that strangely, there are times when the words "cheer up" feel only burdensome and do not feel sincere, so the comfort does not serve as comfort. In these moments, the message continued that what is needed is not words to "try harder," but rather words saying that it is okay as it is, along with words that affirm one's existence just as it is.
Days as a new employee, the weight of encouragement without specific advice
Ki Eun-se recalled her experience when she first joined a company as a new employee and was learning the work. She explained a situation where, during the days when she was clumsy at everything and always tense, constantly watching others' reactions while moving back and forth to the photocopier, she received a work instruction from her department manager to analyze a competitor's product. Since the manager was difficult at the time, she could not even ask specifically what she should do and quickly replied before returning to her seat, but she shared that once she stared at the computer screen, she felt so helpless that cold sweat began to pour out of her automatically.
She continued her work by searching through the company intranet and the internet, but since she had no idea whether she was doing well or poorly, she also sought advice from her seniors. However, she revealed that the responses she received were only encouragement such as, "You just need to organize it a little more." Despite receiving these countless encouragements, the main part of the video focused on the helplessness she felt at the time because she did not receive proper advice regarding the work.
Meanwhile, she stated in the video description that this content is a 'book reading content' that Ki Eun-se has wanted to try for a long time, and it was prepared with the hope that viewers would enjoy it comfortably while slowly reading page by page with a mind meant for taking a brief rest.
