Kumseong Publishing releases new picture book 'The Lady in High Heels'

NBNTV = Ju Hyeon-ung. Kumseong Publishing has released the standalone book 'The Lady in High Heels' by author Kim Hyeon-rye, who won in the picture book category at the 32nd MBC Creative Fairy Tale Award.

The MBC Creative Fairy Tale Award is a competition co-hosted by the Kumseong Cultural Foundation and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), with sponsorship from Kumseong Publishing, aimed at discovering domestic children's literature creators and creative fairy tale authors.

Since the foundation's establishment in 1993, Kumseong Publishing has been publishing award-winning works from this competition as books every year.

The 32nd competition accepted entries from April to September last year, judging a total of approximately 1,400 submissions, including 275 fairy tales, about 100 picture books, and 1,024 poems. In the results announced in October of the same year, the winners included one Grand Prize winner in the long and short fairy tale category, two joint Honorable Mention winners in the picture book category, and 14 winners in the poetry category.

The published 'The Lady in High Heels' uses visual storytelling to explore the conflict between the judgments of others and an individual's unique life. Through shoe heels that grow higher depending on the attention received from others, the book expresses the process of finding balance between the desire for recognition and the maintenance of identity.

Judges Shin Su-jin and Park Hyeon-min commented, "'The Lady in High Heels' is a story about finding balance between the desire to be noticed by chasing an image everyone envies and the desire to live authentically. It stands out for its portrayal of finding a life attitude that fits oneself without denying emotions or being swayed by them."

Kim majored in Lens Media at Richmond University in London and has authored works such as 'I Am Me', 'The Octopus's Journey', 'When Hair Grows', and 'Where Are You Going?'
