"Now your spouse comes first" Jin Yang-hye's final advice to her son
Broadcaster Jin Yang-hye shared her complex emotions regarding her eldest son's recent marriage after a 12-year relationship. Appearing on the YouTube channel 'Dongchimi', she reflected on her experiences as a mother and offered heartfelt advice to her son about his new role as a head of a household.

This March, Jin Yang-hye, who saw her eldest son marry after a long relationship of 12 years, shared her complex emotions about sending her son away. Broadcaster Jin Yang-hye appeared on the recently aired YouTube channel 'Dongchimi', expressing her feelings about becoming a mother-in-law and revealing her regrets from her past parenting days.
"An immature mother"... The meaning of regret and tears left for her son
In the video, Jin Yang-hye confessed her honest feelings leading up to her eldest son's marriage. She mentioned the process of her son bearing fruit after continuing a relationship for over 10 years and expressed regret felt during the wedding preparation process. Jin Yang-hye said, "I became a mother without much preparation," expressing regret for not being able to fulfill her role as the primary caregiver because she had to prioritize the child's safety rather than communicating enough with the child.

In particular, she recalled a tense situation from the child's kindergarten days when the child was briefly left alone by a swimming pool. She recalled the memory, saying, "The child was standing alone and had turned pale." Jin Yang-hye shared her experience of suddenly bursting into tears while preparing a meal in the kitchen after hearing the news of her son's marriage, explaining that it was not simply because she did not want to let her son go. She added, "I felt proud and grateful, but there was also a lot of regret that I could no longer spend such long periods of time with the child."
"Your spouse is the most precious"... The final advice given to her son
Before the marriage, Jin Yang-hye spent time having dinner and conversations with her son. She advised him on the attitude he should have as the head of a household. Jin Yang-hye emphasized to her son, "Now that you are the head of a family, it is different from when you were dating," and "The most precious person is not your parents or siblings, but your spouse."

Furthermore, she left specific requests regarding the relationship with his spouse. She advised her son, "You might think your spouse will understand your heart completely, but they won't know if you don't speak," encouraging him to converse comfortably with each other. She continued, "Try to be a wonderful husband by supporting your spouse so that they can grow together." Jin Yang-hye also expressed her feelings about letting go of the burden of parenting, saying, "My shoulders have become so light" after her son's marriage.
"Rather than going all-in on the child, you need your own standards of happiness"
Jin Yang-hye also delivered a philosophical message regarding parenting and the independence of children. She raised a cautionary voice against a parenting style that pours everything into a child. Jin Yang-hye said, "If you provide full support to the child and go all-in on everything, later on, instead of gratitude, you might feel a sense of 'how could I raise them like this'."
Rather, she explained, "Having a slight deficiency is what helps the child develop the strength to do things themselves, and this is a healthy way for the child as well." She also mentioned life after a child becomes independent, emphasizing the importance of contemplating what will be left for oneself after the child leaves, and continuously creating one's own meaning of life and standards of happiness so as not to be solely immersed in the child.
