Doosan Fuel Cell enters US AI data center power market
Doosan Fuel Cell secures a 501.4 billion won contract with HyAxiom to supply PAFC fuel cells for US AI data centers.

Doosan Fuel Cell is making its debut in the U.S. power market by supplying fuel cells for AI data centers to HyAxiom, a U.S. subsidiary of Doosan Corporation. The project follows HyAxiom's successful procurement of fuel cell orders for U.S. data centers, providing both companies with a strategic foothold in the rapidly growing North American power market.
Doosan Fuel Cell announced in a public disclosure on the 2nd that it has signed a contract with HyAxiom to supply PAFC (Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell) units worth 501.4 billion won. The products will be delivered sequentially to HyAxiom from the second half of this year through the first half of 2028, for subsequent supply to AI data centers across the United States.
HyAxiom manages research and development (R&D), sales, engineering, project execution, commissioning, and LTSA (Long Term Service Agreement) across North America and Europe. Leveraging its Iksan plant—a global production hub for fuel cell systems—Doosan Fuel Cell maintains an installation track record of over 800MW and supplies products to both domestic and international clients, including HyAxiom, while managing sales and LTSA throughout Asia.
The contract addresses the growing power bottleneck in the United States. As the demand for power from AI data centers outpaces the construction of power plants and transmission grids, securing rapid power access has become a critical factor in the AI race. While expanding transmission and distribution grids can take several years, data centers are typically built within approximately 18 months. To bridge this gap, global big tech companies are increasingly adopting 'On-Site' power solutions by placing generation facilities near data centers, with fuel cells emerging as a leading alternative.
This export is particularly significant as Doosan Fuel Cell's technology meets the rigorous performance standards of the North American data center market. The fuel cells offer high power generation efficiency and 24-hour continuous operation, satisfying the power reliability, maintenance ease, and load responsiveness required by data centers.
Through close cooperation, Doosan Fuel Cell and HyAxiom can complete installations at U.S. customer sites within approximately one year of the contract, ensuring timely power delivery that aligns with data center construction timelines. The modular design also provides scalability, allowing for phased expansions as power demand grows.
"This contract confirms our competitiveness in the United States, a core market, by providing a Behind The Meter (BTM) solution capable of resolving the power bottleneck issues facing data centers in the AI era," a Doosan Fuel Cell official said. "Building on this momentum, we will expand our order book in the North American market by leveraging our rapid supply capabilities and modular scalability.""
