The cast of the Netflix series 'Take Charge of My Heart' shared vivid behind-the-scenes stories while reviewing key scenes from the work. Based on the setting and character relationships, the cast blossomed into conversation by expressing the characters' 'charging rate' in direct numerical values.
"Cartoon-like setting"... From the first meeting to the alleyway contract
The cast unanimously described the overall atmosphere of the work as a "cartoon-like setting." They stated there was both shyness and fun in the process of real people having to act out imaginary scenes that are difficult to implement in reality. In particular, the scene where Bo-bae and Ho-rang first meet was cited as a moment where matching the timing was not easy. They shared that in the scene where the two overlap behind a building, they had to receive multiple 'OK's to match the timing of the heart balloons, which are implemented via CG, with their real-life movements. At that time, Bo-bae had to act out complex emotions, being surprised by the sudden contact while simultaneously thinking that the other person was okay.
The alleyway scene, where the relationship between the two begins to involve each other in earnest, was mentioned as a part where the visual direction stood out. Although the setting is a dark alley without flowers or streetlights, it was beautifully directed by hanging flowers on the walls and installing lights for the shoot. This scene, where Bo-bae approaches Ho-rang holding a contract that stakes her life, was a turning point for both characters. This is because Bo-bae was in a situation where she had to complete the romance within the 3-month contract period made with director Yeon Min-gyu, and Ho-rang also needed Bo-bae's charging for survival.
Filming difficulties: "The chair was too wide, making it hard to get close"
There were unexpected variables on set when filming scenes where the romantic atmosphere intensified. In the case of the scene where the two grow closer while drinking alcohol, a grievance was raised that it was very difficult to naturally get close because the chair actually used was too wide. While the director wanted a picture of the two naturally getting close, the cast revealed they continued filming while contemplating various methods, such as sitting on the edge of the chair, due to the physical distance.
Additionally, there were technical difficulties in the scene where Ho-rang sings a song. A behind-the-scenes story was revealed that because the range of the song sung on set was higher than the set tone, the audio had to be worked on separately later. The cast recalled that these processes gathered to complete the emotional lines of the characters in the drama.
Relationship changes seen through charging rate... From '0%' to '100%'
The cast defined the degree to which the two people's love deepens in the drama as a 'charging rate' and presented numerical values for each scene. The moment of their first meeting was defined as a state of '0%' where no emotions have crossed yet. Afterwards, in the process of the relationship progressing as they begin to live together, Bo-bae's charging rate reached 50%, sometimes even ahead of Ho-rang, and the figures changed as the excitement continued in scenes such as the night walk. Bo-bae also felt her heart flutter at the feeling that Ho-rang was protecting her.
In particular, in the scene where the emotions of the two reach their peak, the charging rate reaches 100%. In the video, they emphasized that the charging rate for this scene is 100%, wittily expressing the state where the characters in the drama have become completely immersed in each other. Through these changes in numerical values, the cast once again reminded viewers of the excitement unique to the romantic comedy genre of the work.
