"Water Torture is Attempted Murder" Oh Eun-young Issues Stern Warning Over Husband's Violent Behavior

Dr. Oh Eun-young delivered a stern warning regarding excessive physical actions that occur in situations where trust between a married couple has collapsed.

In the MBC 'Oh Eun-young Report - Marriage Hell' broadcast on the 5th, a case of a couple whose relationship had deteriorated since the early stages of their marriage was covered. In the video, the husband appeared to justify his actions by citing reasons such as suspicion of his wife's infidelity and her participation in a mountain climbing club. The husband mentioned a situation from when they lived in Mungae-dong, where he felt dissatisfied that his wife stayed out late participating in a mountain climbing club primarily composed of the elderly, even though their youngest child was at an age where they needed constant care.

According to the conversation in the video, the husband expressed his dissatisfaction with his wife's behavior and claimed that his physical actions had their own reasons. The husband claimed that his cruel behavior, water torture, taking away a knife, and suspecting his wife all had his own justifications. In response, Dr. Oh Eun-young pointed out that the husband's actions had crossed the line. Dr. Oh noted that even if the other party committed a mistake, the actions performed by the husband constitute torture and scientific assault, and are serious enough to be considered attempted murder.

In particular, Dr. Oh pointed out that the husband was too confident about his own actions. She noted that even though he should be terrified, realizing the danger his actions could bring and thinking, "I am doing this kind of thing," the husband is instead granting legitimacy to his own behavior. Dr. Oh explained that she could not understand, by any common-sense standard, the mindset that the wife deserved to undergo water torture.

Dr. Oh Eun-young advised that, regardless of the wife's faults, even if the bond as a married couple ends, one must maintain minimum human decency toward a partner with whom they have shared a deep connection for over 40 years. The intent is that an attitude of maintaining minimum loyalty to the other person as a human being is necessary.

Furthermore, Dr. Oh mentioned that the husband must have also been unhappy throughout the marriage and noted that he likely had many accumulated grievances. Dr. Oh continued the counseling by suggesting that the husband should apologize for the parts he was wrong about and sincerely lighten the burden on his heart.
