"Hands are better than machines" — The unexpected actions of a daughter-in-law from the Joseon era
A person appearing to be from the Joseon era has appeared in a modern chairman's house, showing unexpected behaviors such as preferring hand-washing dishes over using a dishwasher. The individual, who suffers from memory loss, is attempting to adapt to modern life by learning Hangeul and using a mobile phone.
A strange figure, appearing as if from the Joseon era, appeared at a modern chairman's house and displayed unexpected behavior.
According to a video released by TV CHOSUN JOY, the video depicts unfamiliar situations experienced by an individual presumed to have come from the Joseon era while living in a modern residential space. The individual showed signs of adapting to modern civilization, such as learning Hangeul and learning how to communicate with people far away through a mobile phone. Leaving the phone aside, the individual expressed interest in the fact that if they write the learned Hangeul and send a text, a person far away can read the letter, describing it as "something that allows you to talk to someone far away who is not here."
"Hands are better than machines" — The daughter-in-law's unfamiliar dishwashing
The most striking scene in the video was the behavior of the individual referred to as the daughter-in-law. Despite the presence of a dishwasher, a modern home appliance, the individual stepped forward to wash the dishes by hand. According to the dialogue in the video, the participant expressed the intention to wash by hand, saying, "I could just run the machine, but I feel like a dishwasher won't be as good as human hands." This appearance caused unfamiliarity among the surrounding people who are accustomed to using modern appliances. Additionally, the process of building relationships with those around them even in a changed environment was shown, such as receiving the greeting, "It suits you very well."
A figure from Joseon appearing with lost memories
The identity and past of the individual remain a mystery. The person in the video recalled that the moment they regained consciousness was in cold water, mentioning a situation where it was pitch black due to a lunar eclipse. In particular, they revealed a state of amnesia by answering that they "have no idea" who they are or what their family relationships are, or saying they "only know [the fact] that you are Mother." Surrounding people could not hide their bewilderment, saying, "How can you have lost your memory as part of the set?" The individual suggested a connection to the Joseon era by mentioning that images of tile-roofed houses, thatched houses, and people wearing Hanbok vaguely come to mind.
Preparing thin rice gruel for those heading out on an empty stomach
Even in an unfamiliar environment, the individual showed signs of looking after those around them. A scene appeared where they personally boiled and served thin rice gruel (jomieum) for a person heading out early in the morning. The participant explained that they prepared the gruel because "it seemed like you were going out on an empty stomach." Furthermore, they expressed a will to adapt to the given environment and repay others, saying, "I will learn and master things diligently to act like a proper human being. If you watch over me, I will repay your kindness." This was followed by a scene where the carefully prepared food was delivered, accompanied by the reaction, "My stomach feels comfortable after eating this."
