ATEEZ member YEOSANG shared the physical difficulties he experiences on stage and the bond with his members that allows him to overcome them. In a video uploaded to actress Kim Jung-nan's YouTube channel, YEOSANG candidly revealed the hardships he feels while performing intense choreography and live vocals simultaneously.
"Moments when vision narrows" extreme situations on stage
YEOSANG revealed that the process of continuing to sing stably while performing intense choreography is not easy. In the conversation in the video, YEOSANG said that because he has orthostatic hypotension, there are moments when "my vision narrows like this and suddenly it's just like this." He mentioned that there are times when his vision narrows and it feels as if he cannot hear sounds well.
He mentioned that the driving force that allows him to continue the stage even in these extreme situations is his members. YEOSANG explained that at moments on stage when he feels like he might collapse, if he looks to his side, he sees the members also having "really like they are about to die expressions." He added that because he thinks if he collapses, the hardship of the other members who are enduring until now could become heavier, he gains the motivation to endure once more by looking at the members.
Tension before the Coachella stage and members' group chat video
He also mentioned the tension felt before ATEEZ stood on the Coachella stage. YEOSANG said that despite preparing thoroughly, such as renting a large studio to practice live vocals and matching movements from a week before the Coachella performance, he was very nervous ahead of the actual outdoor stage.
Relating the situation in the waiting room at the time, he explained that all the members were nervous. In particular, he shared that member SAN shared a video of his own face in the group chat, and he reported that all members were in a state of tension to the extent that his face was captured trembling in the video. YEOSANG said it was better to share the tension with eight people rather than being alone.
"The pressure to improve" the destiny of an artist
The conversation continued regarding the anxiety and worries felt while starting at a small-scale company where there were about ten employees in the early days of debut. YEOSANG revealed that he has been active with the members with the thought, "We have to stand out somehow."
Continuing on the pressure felt every time they make a comeback, YEOSANG mentioned the burden of having to show an improved appearance in terms of dance or external aspects, saying, "Somehow, I have to show that I have improved in something." Regarding this, Kim Jung-nan empathized, saying that the process of worrying to show something new is itself the point where one feels rewarded, and that it is a destiny-like worry that any artist experiences.
