IMSEMO recounts awkward salon chat and onstage prompt-screen mishap on concert day

IMSEMO described an awkward chain of lies after her hairdresser mentioned a divorce, and a prompt-screen failure during her performance of “Cosmos.” She also recalled a fast-paced audience clapping moment, an emotional fan-signing session and dinner with friends after the show.

Singer IMSEMO recounted an unexpected mishap onstage and an awkward exchange at a hair salon on the day of her concert. A video she posted follows the day from preparations for the performance held on October 7 through the incident onstage and the post-show gathering.

A chain of lies after a salon chat about divorce

Before the concert, IMSEMO visited her regular salon for a trim and was caught off guard when the hairdresser mentioned getting divorced during their small talk. Flustered, IMSEMO hurriedly tried to respond with, “It’s better to split up than to keep putting up with it.”

The conversation then spun out of control. Seeing IMSEMO in her performance outfit, the hairdresser asked if she was going to a wedding. IMSEMO found herself answering, “Yes, I’m going to a wedding.” When the hairdresser guessed she was going to meet an ex-boyfriend, IMSEMO played along, replying, “That’s right,” to get through the moment. “In my mind I was shouting at myself to stop lying, but out loud I kept going along with it and lying,” she said of her embarrassment.

A prompt screen goes dark as the clapping speeds up

A technical mishap occurred during the performance when the prompt screen suddenly went dark as IMSEMO played “Cosmos.” She had written musical notes on the screen for her melodica part, which left her flustered. A friend working as the prompt-screen operator kept advancing the display, and they managed to resolve the problem through a monitor connection. IMSEMO said she felt proud that her friend was not getting the lyrics wrong, but added that she herself could not see the prompt screen and did not realize what was happening.

The audience’s enthusiasm also prompted laughter. During “Rain at Dawn,” before IMSEMO began clapping, audience members were seen lowering and raising their hands as they waited for a cue. Once she started clapping, the excited audience sped up the beat, and IMSEMO, the other performers and the crowd were swept along in the faster rhythm, leaving the room in laughter.

IMSEMO also expressed satisfaction with the concert’s setup and the audience’s ability. About three months had passed since the album’s release, she said, and audience members had learned lyrics including those to “The Opposite of Weather Ho-jeong”; she rated their abilities highly. She said she had been anxious during a cover-song performance without in-ear monitors because she could not hear the song well, but encouragement from friends and videos posted by audience members showed her that she had done well.

“I remember all the fans’ faces”: tears and smiles at the signing

The post-concert signing session proceeded freely at a black-table setup that reminded IMSEMO of a press conference. She became tearful on seeing a fan she had not met in a long time. When the fan said they had continued listening to her music, IMSEMO said she was moved by the thought, “I thought they had left, but they hadn’t.”

IMSEMO also showed how closely she remembers fans. When a fan who knew her name asked how she knew theirs, she replied that her memory was better than people might expect and said she remembered fans’ faces. She added that when familiar faces are absent, she can feel hurt and wonder whether they did not enjoy the concert, and that she remembers all the fans’ faces.

After the concert, she ended the day with chicken and a gathering with acquaintances. She had planned to eat at an outdoor table, but said the attitude of the restaurant owner, who was wearing a mask at the time, made her feel somewhat intimidated.
