Actor Choi Go-gi revealed the decisive reason why he decided to divorce in the past and the complex emotions he felt during that process.
According to a video from TV CHOSUN's 'We Got Divorced', Choi Go-gi stated that he learned his ex-wife's true feelings through a diary he discovered while preparing for the divorce. In the video, Choi Go-gi said, "While cleaning the house after deciding to leave in February 2020, I came across a diary," and "Among the contents written around 2018, I saw things like 'I just hate living with him' or 'It's hard'." He explained that the moment he confirmed that his ex-wife found living with him difficult, he settled his heart. He added that after seeing the diary, he completely gave up his feelings, and on the other hand, he thought about how hard the child must have had it alone during that time.

"There is no right answer to parenting" Self-reproach felt while raising a child alone
Choi Go-gi also mentioned the difficulties and self-reproach he experienced while raising his child alone after the divorce. He confessed, "While working, I thought taking care of the child was a shared responsibility, but having done it alone myself, parenting was even harder," and "There is no right answer to parenting, and if you do it alone, you end up feeling a lot of self-reproach." He expressed his difficulty, saying that while one can learn how to handle work-related matters, parenting is a realm that no one knows.
In particular, he expressed regret regarding the decision that made his ex-wife leave. In the video, Choi Go-gi conveyed his feelings of apology toward his child and his ex-wife, saying, "I am left with many regrets and reflections about why I made her leave." He also hinted that along with his apology to the child, lingering feelings regarding his past marriage remained.
Family outing after 7 months, the child says "Mom and Dad, stay together"
The video captures Choi Go-gi, his ex-wife, and their child going on an outing to a zoo together for the first time in 7 months since the divorce. Seeing her mother and father together, the child, Sol-ip, hovered around the two, expressing sentiments such as "Mom and Dad, stay together" and "Don't be apart." Sol-ip expressed love to her mother and conveyed her wish for her father and mother to be together.
Watching the child's behavior, Choi Go-gi said, "A mother must exist for a child," and "While the time spent with the child is small but precious, a vague sense of apology continues regarding the fact that I cannot be by her side as a mother." Meanwhile, the video also addressed the context of the child's behavior, such as striving to attract the parents' attention or trying not to be separated, in relation to the psychological state a child may experience when going through a parental divorce. An explanation followed regarding the guilt children feel when experiencing a parental divorce and the psychological mechanism of trying to hold onto their parents.
