"Why am I the perpetrator?" An aggrieved taxi driver, the twist in an accident involving an elderly cyclist

JTBC's "Han Moonchul's Dashcam Review" examined a case where a taxi driver was unfairly blamed for an accident after an elderly cyclist fell alone, alongside other dangerous road behaviors. The program also highlighted various incidents including property damage by a minor and reckless electric scooter usage.

Unexpected accidents occurring on the road and the complex nature of resulting negligence disputes are drawing attention once again. In JTBC's "Han Moonchul's Dashcam Review," the program covered an accident where an elderly person riding a bicycle fell alone, the aggrieved circumstances of the driver involved, and various threatening situations occurring on the road.

"I was looking ahead after dropping off the passenger"... An aggrieved taxi driver's appeal

The video introduced an accident where an elderly person riding a bicycle suddenly fell on the road. At the time, the driver operating the taxi was stopped in front of a crosswalk near an apartment complex to drop off a passenger. The driver explained the situation at the time, saying, "I was driving a passenger, but since the grandfather was riding a bicycle from the right and it was somewhat too narrow, I had no choice but to overtake and stop in front of the apartment complex crosswalk." The driver continued, "After finishing the payment with the passenger, I started moving slowly while looking ahead, but since there was nothing on the left, (the accident happened)," stating that they discovered the bicycle and the elderly person lying down immediately after starting and promptly reported it to 119.

The core of the incident was the causality of the accident. While the elderly person claimed that the taxi hit them while driving, dashcam footage from a vehicle coming from the opposite direction confirmed that the elderly person fell alone before making contact with the car. However, the driver's testimony that they were contacted by the insurance company to proceed with a settlement at a 6:4 or 5:5 negligence ratio shows the confusion on the scene. The driver lamented, "The insurance company contacted me and told me to settle at 6:4 or 5:5," adding, "I received notice from the police that they would close the case due to reasons such as failure to look ahead, but the insurance company's demand for negligence feels unfair." It is reported that the elderly person underwent surgery for injuries including a laceration on the glabella area and a ruptured ligament in the left shoulder.

The identity of the 'Kung Fu Villain' who damaged a vehicle and lawless kickboards

Examples showing disorderly behavior on the road followed. An incident was revealed where physical impact was applied to a parked vehicle during the early morning hours, causing damage worth approximately 1.8 million won in repair costs. The video captured a scene where a strong impact was applied, enough to make the vehicle dent. The perpetrator of the incident was revealed to be a middle school student, and it is known that the matter was settled after the parents agreed to bear the repair costs.

Additionally, dangerous driving situations related to electric kickboards were addressed. The video captured images of kickboard users threatening the safety of pedestrians and drivers, such as riding in a "stealth" state at intersections during the early morning or jaywalking in dilemma zones. In particular, behaviors such as riding in a lane instead of a crosswalk, ignoring basic traffic laws, were pointed out.

From a tow truck wheel falling off to driving the wrong way... Dazzling moments on the road

In addition, various road accident cases were listed. The video contained dizzying moments such as an accident caused by a tow truck's wheel falling off during towing operations, a collision that pushed against a guardrail, and vehicles overturning or falling due to a driver's pedal misoperation. In particular, dangerous driving scenes that threaten lives, such as driving the wrong way inside a highway tunnel or a vehicle driving the wrong way on the roadside, continued, raising awareness about road safety.
